New Media Certificate Portfolio

Certificate Overview

My NMI Story began long ago back in fall of 2021. I began taking the classes simply because they sounded cool, but I had no idea what I was getting myself into. During intro, I began to understand the interworkings of the internet (something I never really thought about before) as well as other technology. I was intrigued! Following that class, I started my first web dev course, but back when I started, it was still called production. Nonetheless, I learned the most I have ever learned in this class. I got to dive deep into the world of HTML, CSS, and ,you guessed it, free code camp. Through this class I was able to gain a skill I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Following that class, I took Design. In this class, I learned about Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I loved getting to learn about all of the interworkings of design and create very aesthetically pleasing projects. The next class I took was Native App Dev. This class challenged me like no other. Xcode itself is a pretty challenging software to work with, but I learn a lot about the power of APIs and userinterface. Finally, in my last semester, I took Industries and Capstone. Industries is one of those classes that I always know is going to help me. I love getting to hear from people who are able to share some real advice about the professional world. As a graduating senior, all the advice has been so helpful. In Capstone, I got to work with a team put all of these skills together. My team created a space education app for the Apple Vision Pro. My time in the NMI has been challenging yet so rewarding. I hope you enjoy seeing a glimpse into some of the work I have done throughout my time!

Web Dev
Spring 2022

Class Overview

Web development for me taught me the some of the most important building blocks of my NMI career. Before this class, I never had the opportunity to do anything like coding before. I got to learn HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and Wordpress. All of these tools have benefited me in New Media classes and in my other work throughout undergrad.

Project Feature: Cool Beans (Bootstrap)

One of my favorite things that we did in this class was learn how to use Bootstrap. Personally, I think that Bootstrap is such a useful tool for beginner web developers. The project I have below is one of the boot. I made the entire project about coffee and where it comes from. Sure thing! I started by setting up the basic structure of the webpage, like declaring the document type and language. Then, I added details like the page title, icons, and fonts to make it look good. Next, I divided the content into different sections, such as navigation, describing coffee shops, showcasing items to order, explaining the journey from bean to cup, introducing the team, and displaying client logos. Finally, I used Bootstrap to style everything nicely and make it work smoothly, ensuring visitors have a great experience exploring the world of coffee on my site.

Design
Spring 2023

Class Overview

New Media Design was such a fun class! I learned foundational principles such as balance, contrast, and hierarchy, which form the basis of creating visually appealing designs. We delved into color theory, typography, and layout composition, exploring how to effectively use these elements to communicate messages and evoke emotions. Additionally, I gained an introduction to digital design tools like Adobe software and learned about the principles of user experience design. Through hands-on projects, I applied these concepts to create logos, posters, and other design materials, developing essential skills for future design endeavors.

The Carolina Wren

For this project, we created an entire hotel brand! Using all of the things we learned in Design, we made an entire brand guideline that includes logos, typography, colors, etc. This project was such a fun way to show off all that we learned.

Native App Development
Fall 2023

Class Overview

Native App Development was a pretty challenging class for a number of reasons, but it was also incredibly rewarding. I navigated Swift iOS for the very first time. I immersed myself in understanding the unique design guidelines and user experience principles for the platform. Though nothing I created was super complex, I was able to learn so much about user interface and how to make a goodlooking app.

Final Project: Workout App

This app was pretty challenging for me to build. There were alot of things that I still had a pretty hard time grasping, but I still think it looks great! Users can use this app to plan their workouts by simply adding workout to each day.

Advance Web Development
Spring 2024

Advance web dev is such an awesome class! I got to dive even deeper into all of the coding that I learned in Web Dev. In this class I got really comfortable with using different data bases like APIs and how to pull from them. I also got to learn about how to use conditionals, flexboxes, and some pretty cool Javascript. At time I found this class pretty challenging, but overall, I got very comfortable using these coding languages, but mainly HTMl and a good bit of CSS. The best way I can describe it is when you can read a language and understand whats happening, but you can't speak it fluently.

Athens Restaurant Finder

For my final project, I created my own data base that has a long list of Athens restaurants as well as some information about them. The users fill out the form and information is pulled from the form. Then the form will show you a list of restaurants based on your preferences. This project was inspired by my internship with Guide2Athens where I had to create a Google Map page with all the locations of sponsored businesses. From that this idea was formed to help people find where they want to eat in Athens!

Capstone
Spring 2024

Class Overview

Capstone taught me alot about team work and how to see a project through until the very end. Within our project, we conducted market research, created a brand style guide, an app for the Apple Vision Pro, have a booth presentation, as well as a final presentation. We workeed with the same group from January until May, and through this experience we had to work together to create our product. This class taught me a lot about how to work with others and communicate well with them.

iSpace

We created an immersive space experience using the Apple Vision Pro for children ages 7-14 that allows you to explore and learn about space and what's in it. We started this project from the ground up back in January of 2024 and completed market research, developed a brand style guide, a project website, a project trailer, a project booth, and a fully functioning Vision OS space app. Below is a link to our website with all of the pieces of our project.
